Position/Job Title: Parable Advanced Consultant
Reports to: Dan Pourbaix, Parable Advanced Lead
Salary Range: $65,000 – $100,000/year
Employment Status: Full Time
Benefits: 3% SIMPLE IRA match after $5000 earned, short term disability insurance, long term

insurance. Some benefits only available after first 90 days.

provide everything from day-to-day bookkeeping to advanced financial consulting for churches.
We are seeking a dedicated Parable Advanced Consultant with a passion for ministry and a
heart for ensuring churches make sound financial decisions that support their mission.
Job Summary:
As the Parable Advanced Consultant, you will work directly with church pastors, ministry
leaders, and finance committees, providing expert financial guidance. Your focus will be on
high-level financial consulting, including financial health, best practices, budgeting, projections,
forecasts, and strategic decision making and long-term planning. This role requires someone
with both financial expertise and a deep understanding of the unique financial challenges
churches face.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Consulting & Advisory:
- Engage with pastors and ministry leaders in strategic financial conversations about budgeting, resource allocation, building campaigns, and long-term financial planning.
- Provide budgeting support, giving trends analysis, and financial forecasting to help churches make informed financial decisions.
- Set up, train, and manage our Advanced Reporting / Dashboards for churches and make sure they meet the needs of the church.
- Offer financial guidance for key decisions, including staffing, building projects, capital campaigns, and large-scale church initiatives.
- Develop strategies around generosity and stewardship
- Ensure that all financial strategies and advice align with the church’s mission and long-term vision.
Financial Analysis:
- Complete a monthly review to provide insights on overall financial health, income, spending v budgeted, and controls, helping churches plan for the future and adjust strategies to maintain financial health.
- Complete giving projections and financial forecasts based on current trends and “what if” analysis.
- Assess cash and help develop a long-term strategy for cash-on-hand, long-term savings, and money available to invest.
- Work with ministry leaders to develop financial strategies to best meet the goals and needs of the church while also supporting industry best practices and healthy financial metrics.
- Summarize/simplify their finances and analysis so that it’s easy for church leaders to understand and use to make decisions.
Audit & Compliance Support:
- Assist churches in preparing for audits and ensuring that financial practices comply with nonprofit standards and relevant regulations.
- Review and support the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and transparency for church boards and finance committees.
Client Relationship Management:
- Communicate regularly and promptly with clients via meetings, phone, and email.
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor for church leaders, ensuring they have access to the information and insights needed to make sound financial decisions.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with churches, becoming a go-to resource for all financial matters.
- Join sales discovery calls with potential churches to discuss how we can meet their needs.
- Ensure all work and obligations are completed per the Scope of Work
Collaboration with Bookkeepers:
- Collaborate with Parable Core bookkeepers and accountants to ensure seamless integration of day-to-day financial work with higher-level financial strategy.
- Review reports generated by Parable Core to provide deeper financial analysis and insights to ministry leaders.
Understand Current Trends & Best Practices
- Stay up-to-date with financial trends happening with churches – giving & funding trends, financial health indicators, business models, etc
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or equivalent preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally with experience working in or with churches or nonprofit organizations.
- Deep understanding of church finances, including budgeting, capital campaigns, giving trends, and compliance requirements.
- Strong financial analysis skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for church leaders.
- Ability to think strategically about the big picture and provide helpful information for church leaders to make decisions.
- Creative problem solving skills, able to identify root issues and provide solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with pastors, ministry leaders, and finance committees at a high level.
- Passion for seeing churches succeed in their mission through sound financial stewardship.
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and church-specific financial tools is a plus.
- Very comfortable with using and creating spreadsheets.
